Neuropsychology is a branch of mainstream psychology that could be practiced by a clinical psychologist in South Africa.
Neuropsychology aims to understand how the structure and functioning of the brain relates to specific psychological processes and behaviours. These include our personality, cognitive functioning, motor-behaviour, etc.
Sustaining a brain injury or illness could alter these psychological processes and behaviours causing a person to experience changes in personality, memory loss or losing previously acquired skills such as reading, writing, talking, walking, etc.
As a clinical psychologist with an interest in the field of neuropsychology I can, through appropriate assessments, identify brain related difficulties and then assist in adjusting the client and his/her family to their new level of functioning.
